Lacrimal sac lymphoma in a child.

The 3 most common cancers in children in the United States include leukemia (33%), brain tumors (20%), and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (10%). Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in children most commonly manifests in the abdomen (35%), anterior mediastinum (26%), and peripheral lymph nodes (19%). Less than 5% of such cases occur initially in the orbit. In a review of 250 pediatric orbital tumors, Shields and coworkers found 6 cases (2.4%) of orbital lymphoma, none of which were in the lacrimal sac. Using a MEDLINE search of the English language literature from 1970 to 2002, we identified 21 reported cases of primary non-Hodgkin lymphoma of the lacrimal sac, and only 1 patient was younger than 18 years. We report a case of a primary nonHodgkin lymphoma of the lacrimal sac in a 10-year-old child.
